The longest train ride ever

A train rolled in just after half of midnight like was planned.. Yay! The only bummer was that the train was already full or half full with people who locked the little seating areas so they could sleep in luxury while the rest of us had to scavenge for a chair to sit up in. Jerks. I'm doin that next time I figure out how to lock an unlockable door. We found a cubby with another girl and then a mom and her daughter followed us in... Basically a full house with 5 people trying to sleep in 6 seats. And the mom was way too popular for us, her phone prolly went off every 20 mins throughout the night when she wasn't taking a smoking break out the window or coming to sit back down to cough all over my face. So lovely. If I wasn't already getting a cold, she was definitely sharing her emphazemia with me now. It wasn't a horrible sleep.. My first train sleep, still better than a bus.. Although the random stops in the boondocks of Croatia, and maybe even Bosnia periodically woke me up. When we were up for good around 7 and still not near Zagreb where we were supposed to be 30 mins before, we wondered what the heck the train was doin last night with all those crazy long stops.. Between meres phone and the route we kinda followed in the book, were pretty sure we technically made it to bosnia, although I won't add it to my country total (27 and counting!) so even though we had a full hour to catch our next train, Croatia couldn't handle us moving about so much and we rolled into zagreb around 8 am.. About an hour and a half late and it wasn't like there was traffic or anything.. So how are we going to get to Vienna? The question of the day.. Well everyone really wanted us to wait around until 3:45 when the next train went.. But we wanted to get there sooner 9:30 at night so we begged for some more options and we got one that went back through every city we've been through before but we took it so we could get to Vienna/Wein by 5 during the daylight.. What's an extra hour or two on the train at this point? So we hopped on, whipped out our cereal, milk and travel bowls and had our cute little breakfast on the the tiny train table.. And then we stretched out as we took over our little box and napped for a bit.. Somehow how train got a slow again.. Mustve been all our groceries weighing it down.. Luckily when we rolled in at 13:16 the connecting train that was supposed to leave at that exact same time was on the adjacent platform and was a few minutes late too.. So we caught our breath.. Running ten steps in a panic was the only exercise we had seen all day.. We climbed on and I started reading the train brochure, asking mere again what time exactly we were supposed to be getting there, cuz the train brochure said 7 not 5.. And it says were goin to Salzburg, which is the wrong way... I ran to the train door where they have a printout of the major stops.. Maybe hopefully the foldout was for a different train or trip!? Nope. We quickly figured out that there were two trains leaving for Wein at 13:16 from villach in opposite directions around the country.. What a joke. Why the heck would they do that to us?! So naturally, to ensure we get the full 24 hour use of our 1 day on the rail pass, we found ourselves on the long train..Eating all our fatty snacks im glad we got now! Where we still are as I type on my little iPhone... O gosh.. If it only had an app for European train time tables.. Or a better route plan for our lives.. It prolly does have the train times.. I'll look it up when I get Internet! Now that we finalllly got to our destination.. Spontaneity is great, especially if you love sitting on trains.. I guess we still accomplished our goal of getting here a day early, but we couldve seen a stop or two along the way. O well. Next time!
